Alex Ellien founded fullBRANCH in 2006 with husband David Ellien. Alex, a Colorado native, has over 18 years of professional experience working at well-respected firms such as Kanner Architects and Shubin + Donaldson. During her seven years as an associate at Kanner, she focused primarily on high end residential and commercial architecture and was Project Architect on the award winning Houses at Sagaponac.
Alex graduated from University of Colorado school of Architecture and Planning and studied at the Art Institute of Florence, Lorenzo di Medici. She has two beautiful sons with her husband.
David Ellien’s professional experience began with Moore, Ruble, Yudell Architects & Planners before moving on to Kanner Architects where he spent 8 years working alongside Stephen Kanner evolving the firm’s approach to solving design challenges. His pursuit of design that recognizes and embraces the connection between architecture and the natural environment led him to Elysian Landscapes where he managed both design and construction of landscape projects. Founding fullBRANCH with his wife Alex provided David the opportunity to draw on his interdisciplinary background in architecture and landscape design in pursuit of the firm’s mission to design solutions addressing both site and building.
David received his Master of Architecture degree from the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture in 1998 after completing Bachelor degrees in Economics and Political Science. His work has been published in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Architectural Digest, Dwell, GQ, Trends, Residential Architect and LA Architect.
Katrina Szabo is an architect at fullBRANCH. She had worked with Maryann Thompson Architects, Studio Gang Architects, SCAPE Landscape Architecture, Atelier Bow-wow, and Alan Wanzenburg Architects. She taught architecture and theory at Syracuse University, ETH Zürich, North Carolina State University, and Northeastern University. She edited Infrastructure as Architecture: Designing Composite Networks and contributed to the publication Cities of Change: Addis Ababa. She has written for and had her work featured in several architectural magazines and journals. She received a Bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology at Cornell University and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University.
Marty Schibler is a graduate of Cornell University, College of Architecture, Art and Planning. His project experience is vast and spans from space planning and schematic design through construction administration of both high end residential and commercial interiors. Because of his attention to refined detailing and composing of material palettes it allows projects to be experientially diverse.
He has worked with Alex for nearly 5 years and collaborated on dozens of projects with her during that time.
